What to expect during Lower Dolpo Trek?
Lower Dolpo Trek is a wild and off-the-beaten adventure in the Himalayas. As the Dolpo region is located in the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range, there is least to almost no rainfall in the monsoon. You get to see outstanding views of Kanjirowa Himal (6,883 m), Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Churen Himal Range, Norbung Kang (6,085 m), and many Tibetan mountain range.
Talking about the trail, it is moderate. Still, you have to walk 6 to 7 hours a day while gaining altitude and that can be a little challenging. Therefore, we suggest you to be in sound health with good physical fitness and stamina to go on Lower Dolpo Trek. If you are someone new in the trekking, then we highly suggest you choose a little easier treks like Annapurna Base Camp Trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

Lower Dolpo Trek permit
If you are a FIT (Free Individual Trekker), then you cannot traverse in the Dolpo region. There are few parts of Nepal that are regulated by the government, and you need to get special permission to travel. Dolpo is among one of those regions. You need to be in at least a group of two people not including a guide. Plus, you have to trek with a government registered tour operator and licensed guide. Only, Lower Dolpo Trek permit is enough, and you will not need any other permits like TIMS Card, etc.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) Symptoms & Prevention
Acute mountain sickness is a general case that can be seen while a high altitude journey. As Lower Dolpo Trekking takes you to a high elevation, there are chances of altitude sickness during the journey. There are few factors that can trigger altitude sickness in an individual, and among them not adjusting your body with the altitude while gaining it is the most effective one.

- Difficulty in sleeping
- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Shortness of breath with exertion
Preventive measures
- Include an adequate number of rest days in the itinerary
- Keep yourself hydrated
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages
- Do not gain more than 500 meters in a day
- Try to spend the night in lower altitude
- Acclimatize properly at a lower altitude
- Inform your guide immediately if any of the symptoms you see
- Do not push yourself
Best time to go on Lower Dolpo Trek
Unlike any other parts of Nepal, Trekking in the Dolpo region is possible in monsoon (June to mid-September). Moreover, it is one of the best times to go on Lower Dolpo Trek because this is the only place where you can trek at this time of the year in Nepal.
Other preferred time is autumn (October to November) and spring (March to April). Autumn has a very pleasant climate the makes walking and vies fantastic. While in spring, you have to take snow gear as the region has still in influence of snowfall from the past winter.
Accommodation during Lower Dolpo Trek
Lower Dolpo Trek is a camping trek. We will carry all our tents and necessities with us during the trek. You will get a single high-quality sleeping tent and other tents like a dining tent and washroom tent will be shared with other members of the group. We offer high-quality tents that are specifically made for spending the night at the Himalayas.
Similarly, in cities, you stay overnight in a three-star hotel or a tourist standard hotel as per your budget. There will be all kinds of services available in the cities.
Food & Water on Lower Dolpo Trek
During Lower Dolpo Trek 20 Days, you will get three meals a day that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As it is a camping trek, all the meals will be prepared by our crew members. We will offer you delicious and hygienic meals. You will have good options to choose from for meals. Dishes like dal bhat, veggies, eggs, bread, pudding, noodles, pasta, sandwich, toast, soup, etc will be available.
Water is available in every teahouse. You can carry water purification tablets for extra safety. Make sure to carry 2L of reusable water bottles that can last you throughout the trail. We highly encourage you not to buy plastic water bottles in the way as it will help to reduce the waste.

Lower Dolpo Trekking cost includes different services that you will be getting while climbing. Lower Dolpo Trek package includes things like permits, accommodation, meals, ground transportation, expenses of guide & porter.
